When is a compliment not a compliment?

"I really like the way you wore your hair the other day."

smile.  beam.  "Thanks."

"It looked really nice."

smile some more.  "Thanks for saying that.  I appreciate it."

"You should wear it that way all the time."

er.  um.  no?
