A Simple Question

Does Vista suck?

If so, how badly?

Let me put this in perspective.  I do not intend to upgrade an XP machine to Vista.  But, over the next, say, year, I'll be in the market for a new computer, and I'm hesitant to buy a system running Vista as I've heard not really good things about it.  I just have a bad Vista Vibe.  XP systems are still available (especially from Dell), but I need to know if buying a system running XP is a technologically stupid move.  Basically, is the world going to eventually catch on to Vista (making an XP purchase ultimately obsolete) or are enough people so pissed off at Vista that buying it would be a waste of money?

We just had a computer tech in the office to work on the boss' laptop.  The boss wanted a reccomendation from the techie about what he should get when he buys a new laptop and the techie replied "NO VISTA!  We think Vista is the devil!"  ~~Kath~~

I would try cnet reviews for windows vista. They pull no punches and use real user reviews.  Remember as with xp a computer OS does not emerge ( so to speak) with out flaws...the longer you can wait the better....:)

Once upon a time, Chris Pirillo, of "Lockergnome" and "HELP-TV" fame was making a pretty nice living advocating M$ Windoze.

No more.

He STILL won't suggest Windows Vista as a viable operating system -- this a year after it was officially introduced. Six months after he removed it from his newest computers (a very difficult and tedious process if you don't want to screw things up to the point of needing to spend $250 per copy of standalone Windoze XP Pro).

He will suggest one purchase another Windows XP machine, if one needs one now. Sadly, Microsoft is going to make it hard to do that in the not so distant future, so if that's what you want to do - tempus fugit.

Your Uncle Wil, on the other hand, suggests you formally drop this attachment to all things Micro$oft and buy yourself a new Macintosh. Yes, it'll cost a little more up front. And yes, there aren't as many "free" programs available. But as the world has become more cynical and security-minded since 9/11, so has the computer industry. Perhaps, just perhaps, the wild West-like days of the personal computer aren't really all that wonderful for the average Jane or John Doe. What they really need is a fast, stable, efficient platform with rock-solid industry-standard software available to meet the needs of the vast majority of users. The early-adopters and bleeding-edge thrill seekers can hang out bitching and moaning about Windows Vista -- the rest of us have work to do, pictures to edit for Grandma and blogs to write. Screw "messing about with computers" -- OUR time is too valuable.

Just a thought. And I did it without advocating the demise of the largest consumer-driven corporation in North America. Who'd a thunk that would ever happen?

This is what's in the wings for Apple's next edition of their operating system. Read about it here and follow the link to see all of the improvements planned:

You already know how I feel about Vista.
